Welcome to Safe Haven Humane Society

At this time, we are dedicating our Home Page to get help for a sweet puppy.

Adorable Ace is a most loving four-month old Boxer/Great Dane mix puppy, who just wants to be a happy-go-lucky little fella like any puppy. Safe Haven rescued him from a shelter that had diagnosed him as unadoptable due to his head-shaking and lack of stability. They planned to put him down, unless another rescue group could step up and take him.

Their initial medical evaluation determined that Ace must have some sort of brain or neurological disorder. A Safe Haven volunteer talked to the shelter and asked if they would hold him one or two more days, so we could make arrangements to take him to our vet for a second opinion. They agreed, and even neutered him and gave him his required shots.

Dr. Langlois of Lowell Animal Hospital, who read the diagnoses emailed to him by a Safe Haven volunteer, thought the findings looked suspect. He agreed to examine Ace and, after that examination, he suspected the dog may have cataracts. He said Ace was very adoptable, but would eventually lose his eyesight.

While discussing Ace's condition at a Pet Smart adoption event, one Safe Haven volunteer mentioned a friend of hers in Williamston. That friend, Dr. David T. Ramsey of the Animal Ophthalmology Center in Williamston, agreed to examine Ace.

The diagnosis? Juvenile cataracts. Ace's vision is completely blocked in one eye and partially blocked in the other. Surgery can be done on both eyes, and he will have perfect vision, for a deeply reduced cost of about $1,600.

This endearing boy has had a horrible start to life, yet he has maintained a wonderful personality throughout his ordeal. We believe he genuinely deserves to be given an opportunity for a normal life! But Safe Haven can’t do it alone: in same cases it takes a village; in this case it will take a large chunk of the animal-loving village to help “raise this puppy”!

Ace is young and has his whole life ahead of him, but shaking his head and running into things shouldn't be a part of it. Won’t you help us help him? Your donations to Safe Haven for his care will make his journey so much easier! You can help with Ace’s treatments by clicking on the donate button below and indicating “for Ace’s treatments.” And as we did with Yukon, we will put up a post to let you know when we’ve reached enough money to cover his medical costs.

Ace and the volunteers of Safe Haven thank you! Helping Ace to get the surgery he so desperately needs is just a click away.
