Donate

There are lots of ways to donate to Safe Haven.  And please remember, Safe Haven is run totally by volunteers.  We have no paid staff and all donations go for food, supplies and medical for the animals.  In addition, since we're a 501(c)(3) nonprofit group, your donations are tax deductible as allowed by law.

  1. Donate online through PayPal, using your credit card.   If you could donate even $5 and ask all of your friends and relatives to do the same, we will be on our way to helping other needy pets. We know everyone can't help by adopting or fostering but a small donation by each person reading this page is the key to saving many of them. Just click on the Donate button below and follow the instructions.  It's easy, secure and only takes a couple of minutes.  Once you've completed your  donation, you can scroll to the bottom of this page to read the stories of just a few of the pets we've helped, such as Coco pictured here, whose leg had to be amputated simply because no one cared.  You can also use the feedback form below to let us know if you want your donation to be used for a specific purpose.  Thank you so much for helping us to help them.

  2. Donate by mail: Safe Haven Humane Society, P.O. Box 55, Ionia, MI 48846
  3. Shop online through iGive.com, an online shopping mall. Tons of online retailers participate in this program. It doesn’t cost you a cent more, but a percentage of your purchase will be donated to Safe Haven. All you have to do is access the retailer’s site (for example Amazon.com,  Circuit City, Best Buy, Barnes and Noble . . . too many to list all of them) through iGive.com. You will have the opportunity to choose which charity you’re selecting to receive a donation from your purchase and that’s where you select Safe Haven Humane Society.
  4. Designate Safe Haven Humane Society as recipient for memorial donations when making final arrangements for a loved one.
  5. Designate Safe Haven Humane Society in your will.
  6. If you sign up for payroll withdrawal for United Way, you may designate Safe Haven Humane Society as the recipient of your donations.

Here are jut a few animals that have needed our help. You may use the feedback form below to let us know if you would like your donation to be used for a specific purpose.

Coco is just one example of our special needs fur kids. A very sweet husky mix, Coco was discovered lying in a kennel at a high-kill shelter with a severely infected leg. The shelter workers insisted that they knew who her owner was and that they were attempting to contact them. Safe Haven offered antibiotics for the interim, to keep the infection from worsening, but the shelter wouldn't allow it. Finally after Coco had been in that kennel with no treatment for 14 days, they allowed us to take her. By that time of course, the infection had spread and her leg had to be amputated in order to save her life. She's a sweet girl who was more fortunate than many.  She's now doing fine in her new home.

Sammy the beagle had an undiagnosed thyroid problem until he was brought to Safe Haven. He started out at 60 lbs and could barely walk 10 feet without collapsing, totally exhausted. He is now at 35-40 lbs and can run! He loves to go for walks and can do so now without being out of breath. His foster "mom" worked very hard to help him lose weight and gain stamina and he has since become a permanent part of the family through adoption.

Josie is a lovable black with white pup taken into our program after she was found walking down the road dragging a child's tricycle she had been chained to. No one on the street seemed to know where she had come from. Almost immediately after coming to us, she displayed the symptoms of the parvo virus. Parvo in puppies is almost always fatal, but she was treated, and although she was a very sick little girl for a few days, she recovered fully and has since found her forever home.

Moses was found wandering down a country road, virtually skin and bones. He was obviously a senior dog, probably 12-14 years old. We took him in to feed and care for him, and then found that he was suffering from congestive heart failure. His foster "mom" fed him delicacies to build up his strength and he took his medication like a champ. He spent several wonderful months with his foster family before succumbing to his illness.

And of course the kitties don't escape the special needs category. Elliott was a sweet, sweet old boy found in a condemned house just before it was torn down. He was covered with flea bites and had very little of his white fur left. Elliott was with us for about four years, and for the last two years he was treated for a thyroid condition.  He received lots of love and treats during his last months and we still miss him.

With her beautiful, shining black coat, you'd never know Sheena has been treated for liver failure and is now diabetic. She's a little queen who just never gives up. Some of these special needs animals will not find permanent homes because people cannot or will not provide the special care needed. Once we have taken these animals into our program, we are committed to them and will continue to provide care as long as they need it or as long as we can.

Please consider helping us with any amount you can.  Our funds go out much faster than they come in because of the endless stream of animals that our society tosses away.  They need your help.
